What does vintage
Fred was being consoled by Mrs. Abernathy or some other of his lady friends so Dean spent the evening alone with the sound of a little early Nat King Cole trio, vintage forties. The former story has been connected with the sailors' custom of hanging vine leaves, ivy and bunches of grapes round the masts of vessels in honour of vintage festivals. The vintage date, therefore, which is borne by " vintage champagne," refers rather to the date of vintage prior to bottling than to the age of the wine, although the main bulk of the wine of a certain " vintage " will actually have been made in the year indicated.

An example of vintage is a dress made in Vintage is defined as how much wine was produced in a particular area during one season, the year and region a wine was produced or a specific model of car from a particular production year.
In fact, if we are to use the word vintage correctly then it is in wine that it was designed for. To me, it has been somewhat abused in usage, all too frequently added to make something feel important. It could be said that the word today has become less of value and dare I say meaningless or at least, untrustworthy. Though, for the wine industry at least, its respect and usage has remained fairly intact if not nearly always used correctly or at least very quickly corrected.
The conditions have to be just right to produce grapes of a sufficiently high quality to make vintage Champagne — this generally means that there are only about four or five such vintages in a decade.
How can one vintage differ from the next? The weather in any particular wine-growing region can vary each year. On top of this, different grape varieties respond to different climatic conditions in their own particular way. Mother Nature is both friend and foe to a winemaker. The weather during the growing season and at harvest time has a big impact on the quality and size of the harvest produced. Generally speaking I have found the consensus is that vintage conjurs up images of antiques, dresses, lace, pearls and florals whilst retro implies geometric shapes, mod and iconic design led items.
Confused still? Lets take it back a little further….. Terms also used are vintage style and retro style.
